This extraordinary typeface was first issued about 1932 for The Times of London newspaper where it was created. It has since emerged one of the worlds most success type creations. These illustrations were done under the supervision of Stanley Morison with The Times drawings made by Victor Lardent. It then underwent a rigorous iterative process and it had more work to be done at Monotype with work in the company’s Type Drawing Office. From the experiment, which Morison had carried out with Perpetua, and Plantin, it incorporates many old styles but in order to produce legibility as well as economy it has been altered. It can be found in books and magazines, and in many reports, office documents; with use also in display and advertising purposes.
