ITC Avant Garde Gothic Font

ITC Avant Garde Gothic is a font family that was developed from the display typeface as used in Avant Garde magazine. Herb Lubalin thought about the logo idea and its attached headline font; the idea was further developed into a whole typeface idea by Lubalin and Tom Carnase, a partner of Lubalin’s firm. The condensed fonts were made by Ed Benguiat in 1974, while the obliques were made by André Gürtler, Erich Gschwind and Christian Mengelt in 1977. There are two main designs: The first one is the headline, and the second is the text styles.
